Canyon Collected brought their ukegrass jamfolk to the Cervantes patio last night 07/27/2017. It was a beautiful evening as the sun went down and the music flowed freely into the air. It also happened to be a 33rd birthday bash for both Leon & Jake.
Leon Elam confidently led the group with his strong voice and energetic banjo picking. Tia Martini amazed the audience with her magnificent solos. Quinn McKay held down the baselines with his upright. Tom Mueller brings a new fire to the group with his dynamic guitar-picking. And Jake Heidrich brought the sweet ringing sounds of his mandolin into the mix tying it all together.
You can catch Canyon Collected at two upcoming shows in Colorado:
07/30 Fort Collins, CO - Odell Brewing Co
08/10 Golden, CO - Backyard Bluegrass Series
After that, Leon and Tia will be going on tour as The Pickin' Pear. You can find tourdates on their facebook page.
Thursday nights Grass for that Ass is always a good time. Be sure to stay up to date on future events at Cervantes by checking their website and facebook.
Cheyenne and I got out of the city today and went up to Berthoud Pass. The weather was great, and there were wildflowers everywhere! Cheyenne even found a patch of snow to sit on and cool down for a bit.
Just below Berthoud Pass is a pull-out from US-40, and there are trailheads for Second Creek. The closer you get to tree-line, you can hear the rock-marmots chirping, telling each other there are people there. On the top of the ridge, there was still plenty of snow hanging on in July. There were plenty of wildflowers everywhere: Indian Paintbrush, Columbine, etc. On my way back down, I ran across the Peter Rabbit snow hut.
On Friday night (07/14/2017), Britt Kusserow and Noah Zinter performed at the Denver Bicycle Cafe.
Britt Kusserow opened the show with a set of original songs that were heartfelt & sincere.

Noah Zinter followed with the Healthy Herd. He began the set with a music/spoken word jam. He continued with more originals and kept the audience engaged with each song. There is a folky/bluesy ethos that permeates his music and its authenticity shines through.

Canyon Collected and 'Krissy & Lathe' from Mr. Uppercut performed a tribute to the music of Blind Melon on Friday night (07/07/2017) at The Big Wonderful in Aurora, Colorado. They performed songs from all three Blind Melon studio albums and even the Velvet Underground cover of Candy Says. Krissy had brought the cross that Shannon's mother, Nel Hoon had given her, and it was an appropriate and powerful reminder of the presence and impact that Shannon Hoon made on the world. A big thank you goes out to all of the musicians involved in this tribute. It was wonderful hearing Blind Melon songs being performed to a large group of people in 2017. It was a testament to Shannon's legacy.
